Wenatchee Jazz Workshop presents Jazznights with two concerts: “Pro Nights” with the LA6 jazz ensemble returning to Wenatchee to perform original compositions along with jazz standards, and “Student Night” with jazz ensembles form local schools performing with visiting professional musicians.
February 7 – The Jazz Workshop Professionals, returning to Wenatchee for their 11th year and performing as the “LA6” include: Tom Peterson, sax; Clay Jenkins, trumpet; Ira Nepus, trombone; Rich Eames, piano; Jeff D’Angelo, bass; Dick Weller, drums.
These musicians, based in Los Angeles and New York, have performed and recorded all over the world with the likes of Paul McCartney, B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra and the Ray Brown Trio, to name a few, as well as on many film & television soundtracks. They will be performing standards as well as original compositions in a straight-ahead jazz style. The “LA6”, a product of the Wenatchee Jazz Workshop, is now a recording group in their own right and will have their CD’s available for sale in the lobby along with the “Wenatchee Live” album recorded at the Wenatchee PAC in 2011.
February 8 – Over 150 jazz students from Wenatchee & Eastmont schools, along with the visiting pros, will perform. Taking the stage will be jazz ensembles from Eastmont High, Eastmont Junior High, Wenatchee High, Foothills, Orchard and Pioneer Middle Schools.
The Wenatchee Jazz Workshop is a unique program devoted to bringing world-class jazz professionals into local schools to work directly with music students. The program is designed to promote excellence and provide inspiration. And, unlike other music clinics, WJW puts the pros in the band sections playing alongside the students, rather than lecturing from the front of the room. This format fosters a mentor relationship and encourages students to open up and play with the emotion that jazz requires. The week concludes with two concerts allowing our community to see and hear the results of the students’ hard work as well as experience an exceptional, high-caliber jazz performance.
