Blood, Sweat & Tears

It’s been five decades since drummer/producer Bobby Colomby and friends assembled the first group to successfully blend rock and jazz into a genre-crossing sound and style. So successfully in fact, that the band’s second album, Blood, Sweat & Tears, topped the Billboard charts for many weeks and beat out the Beatles’ Abbey Road for the prestigious Album of the Year Grammy award. That album produced three major hit singles: “You Made me so Very Happy,” “Spinning Wheel,” and “And When I Die.”

But now Colomby is looking for much more as he develops Blood Sweat & Tears into a contemporary voice. Will Blood, Sweat & Tears have any of the original members? “Not a chance,” says Colomby. I think of this band like baseball’s Yankees. “When you’re at a Yankee game you’re not going to see Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle or Lou Gehrig. What you do come to expect is a team of top-notch players upholding a tradition of winning. It’s what people expect from BS&T as well… brilliant musicians, singers, songs and arrangements. The legend continues with Fox’s “American Idol” singing sensation Bo Bice as their lead singer …Visit Website

Little Texas

As part of the Young Country movement of the early ‘90s, Little Texas were responsible for shaking up the country music world with a new, energetic sound that fused the look and attitude of modern rock music with traditional country themes and styles, bringing a much appreciated bolt of life into the genre.

For their efforts, country fans the world over richly rewarded the band, buying up over 7 million of their albums, while critics showered them with 3 Grammy nominations plus honors from both the Academy of Country Music (Vocal Group Of The Year) and the Country Music Association (Album Of The Year). Their first radio release in 1991, “Some Guys Have All The Love,” became a Top-10 hit, as did their next single, “First Time For Everything.” After the album First Time For Everything was released, five singles reached the top of the charts. New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players: The Mikado

Don’t miss NYGASP’s production of The Mikado.  The history and inspiration for the writing of The Mikado is center stage as we combine the real life characters of Victorian London’s D’Oyly Carte Opera Company with the imagined setting of Titipu, influenced by the art and architecture of Japan.  Join Messrs, Gilbert, Sullivan, and D’Oyly Carte on a fantastic voyage to a land where the timeless libretto, beautiful music, and all of your favorite characters await. There are the three little maids from school, a wandering minstrel, a hilariously corrupt public official, and a Lord High Executioner with a list of offenders deserving of his services, including himself – for flirting! And at the heart of this tale: a romantic love triangle.

This all-new, critically acclaimed production of The Mikado premiered in New York at The Kaye Playhouse in January of 2017.  The production represents a great deal of work between NYGASP and the Asian-American theatrical community; and serves an example of a cooperative effort to promote diversity, equity, and inclusive practice with classic works of art. The production is a wonderful result of people listening to each other and working through problems and differences …Visit Website

Old Time Radio Show

Old Time Radio Show: Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge

Local performers bring this irreverent romp through Dickens’ classic Christmas Carol to the stage in 1940s-style radio hour as it is broadcast live. From the live sponsor spots and jingles, to the use of period microphones, to the sounds effects crew right there with the actors – the result is a nostalgic evening of entertainment from yesteryear.

In this departure from Dickens, young Scrooge’s exclamations of “Bah, humbug!” are an undiagnosed “kind of seasonal Tourette’s Syndrome,” and The Ghost of Christmas Past is played by a sassy African-American woman with enough attitude to portray all three spirits (which she does). She tries to show Scrooge his past, present, and future in order to change him, but her magic keeps malfunctioning in Durang’s version of the beloved holiday classic, and they consistently find themselves transported to the wrong time and place. Mrs. Bob Cratchit takes center stage here. No longer loving and long suffering, Mrs. Bob is in a rage: She’s sick of Tiny Tim, she hates her twenty other children, and she wants to get drunk and jump off London Bridge. As the Ghost loses more control, the plot morphs into parodies of Oliver Twist, The Gift of the Magi, and It’s a Wonderful Life. And to make matters worse, Scrooge and Mrs. Bob seem to be kindred souls falling in love.

Proving that everything new can be old again, pianist Scott Bradlee has become a viral pop sensation after creating a series of clips for YouTube that finds him and his ad hoc group Postmodern Jukebox reworking 21st century pop hits in a variety of vintage styles — transforming Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” into a ’50s-style doo wop number, giving Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop” a ’20s jazz accent, crossing Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” with Irish folk music, and showing how Ke$ha’s “Die Young” would work as a classic country tune.

In 2012, Bradlee got his first taste of viral success when he released A Motown Tribute to Nickelback, in which he and a handful of musicians and vocalists reworked a handful of tunes by the Canadian hard rock act into ’60s influenced R&B arrangements. Becoming more ambitious, Bradlee began working with a rotating group of musicians dubbed Postmodern Jukebox (often featuring vocalist Robyn Adele Anderson) who tackled Bradlee’s arrangements which cast current pop songs in radically different styles. After Postmodern Jukebox’s cover of “We Can’t Stop” racked up over four million views on YouTube, Bradlee and his crew became official internet stars, appearing on the TV chat show “Good Morning America” and being interviewed on National Public Radio …Visit Website

Zeppelin USA: An American Tribute to Led Zeppelin

Zeppelin USA (ZUSA) is all about the music and spirit of Led Zeppelin. The group could have easily donned the blonde “Robert Plant” wig, the dragon suit a la Jimmy Page, the 3 rings on the kick drum, etc. as so many other Zep tributes have done, but they knew they had to set themselves apart. ZUSA stands on their music, focusing on the right tones, vocal inflections, the front mix, borrowing a little from the studio versions here – the live versions there… much attention is spent on delivering a true sonic Zep experience.

But ZUSA also believes in entertainment. The members of ZUSA are veteran musicians who’ve performed for tens of thousands of people. The performers go out of our way to engage and entertain the audience, with huge video screens, low fog, lasers, state of the art lighting, and theatrics. A Zeppelin USA show captures the sound and spirit of the greatest rock band of all time, and promises to either introduce or remind fans of just how great the mighty Zep will always be …Visit Website

Monthly Movies on the Big Screen

In 2013, the Numerica PAC staff brought Christmas movies to the big screen for less than $5 a ticket. The event was such a success, that the tradition continued, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Van Doren Sales. But the success did not stop there. Patrons enjoyed seeing the classics so much, that they requested more. So a Monthly Movie Series was created with the goal of bringing classic movies to the big screen at an affordable ticket price. Since its inception, these movies have been viewed by thousands of patrons from all walks of life. To offset the expenses of making these movies possible, we have asked sponsors to help finance the movies with a cache of being able to choose the movies they sponsor*. Choose the month and the movie or we can do it for you!

*Guidelines: Movie selection must pre-date 2000 (with the exception of animated films). Title is contingent on procuring movie rights.
